Hyderabad is the capital city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Situated in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, the city has an estimated population of 7.1 million people (71 lakh), making it the 5th most populous metropolis in India. Hyderabad is known for its rich history, culture and architecture representing its unique characteristic of a meeting point for North and South India, and its multi-lingual culture, both geographically and culturally. Hyderabad has been a place where Hindus and Muslims have co-existed peacefully for centuries. Hyderabad is also one of the most developed cities in the country. It is an emerging information technology (or IT) and biotechnology hub of India. Hyderabad and Secunderabad are twin cities, separated by the Husain Sagar (bound by the ‘Tank Bund’), a man made lake made during the time of Ibrahim Qutb Shah in 1562. The Charminar monument, built in the center of Hyderabad by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591, is a commemoration of the eradication of a plague in the region.
About Hyderabad
Hyderabad presents an exciting confluence of cultures. The 400-year old city with a resplendent history blends the best of various cultural influences. Today, the old world charm rubs shoulders with technological innovation that is slowly becoming the city’s forte. Galloping its way towards realising its dream of becoming the Silicon Valley of India, the city is home to many global IT firms, international companies, central and state government units, research and development institutes and defence establishments.
With a dynamic leadership, the state is steering the nation to new dimensions in the fields of Information Technology, Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals, Business Management, Construction, Pharma, Insurance, Tourism and more – to emerge as a land of immense business opportunities.
The city is a leading destination for FDI’s and MNC’s like Dell, Deloitte, IBM, Microsoft and Oracle and has become a constant fixture of the itinerary of global leaders and business delegates. Distinguished international personalities such as George W Bush, Bill Clinton, and Tony Blair, have visited Hyderabad in the recent past.
About Hyderabad
Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is a city which combines both the ancient and the modern. It has the most sophisticated five star hotels, shopping malls, eating places (especially those serving the world famous Hyderabadi biryani, a dish of rice and meat) and entertainment facilities. And it is a maze of markets and tiny houses – a busy, noisy place where narrow ancient lanes meet large vehicle-choked roads. Different in the layout of buildings, the way of life of the people and the very atmosphere, these two cities exist side by side, presenting two very different images. The buildings of present day Hyderabad are a rich mix of Medieval Indian, Saracenic, Mughal and Colonial architecture, a combination of the Hindu and Islamic influences with a hint of the erstwhile British Raj.
Hyderabad is highly cosmopolitan, a cauldron of a variety of cultures, not only because of its past but also because of the influx of people from all over the country to its institutions, research and educational, and to its various industries, including many high-profile technological firms.
Hyderabad especially draws tourists to its minarets and its pearl bazaar. The gypsy tribes called the ‘Lambadas’ and ‘Banjaras’ native to the region are known for their colorful traditions, costumes and handicrafts.
